Over time, I have become the girl of my dreams.
I haven’t shared on this blog in over two weeks, a fact which has tormented me every single day. It almost feels as if I have been gone for over a month, since the voice in the back of my mind continually reminds me that I am not getting anything done.
This isn’t true, because in that time I have packed, moved, and finished my finals, but for some reason, knowing this doesn’t help. I honestly couldn’t tell you what's more frustrating than that - having unproductive thoughts inform you that you’re not good enough, over and over again.
As a blogger, our socially driven landscape doesn’t help, because with each day that passes you can literally watch your engagement drop as your followers walk away. After working hard to build your platforms, there’s not much room in the way of positive reinforcement, when you need to take a break.
So what can we do about this?
Personal style is a tough subject for those who lack a sense of style, a sense of self, or both (for the unfortunate few). If you identify with any of these groups, then hey! Welcome to my world.
There's tea on the stove. I hope you like Earl Gray!
Modern media is overflowing with digitally enhanced photos, footage crafted from edited clips, and summaries of success stories. None of these show what happens behind the scenes - the MESSY bits that run our world. Today's society is missing something raw that's key to the reality of our existence.
I have known for a while now that I am not the type of person who thrives in an environment fueled by this state of mind. It can't be healthy to constantly compare your rough draft to somebody else's revised version.
I am a MESSY girl, I am not ashamed, and I am sure that however you identify, there is a bit of MESSY in you too because we all have imperfections. It's about time we embrace them, and free ourselves to grow into the people we're meant to be.
In an age of digital media, role models no longer have to be chosen from a short stack of popular celebrities or the annual family reunion. Nowadays, you can find people on the internet, who you admire for being who they are. It’s increasingly easy to find a person who is not only relatable, but also aspirational: they represent the type of person you want to become and they inspire you to follow your heart.
What does this mean for us dreamers? It means that everywhere we look, there is more and more inspiration to have our dreams and achieve them too. Here are a few YouTubers who have inspired me over the years, and who I think may inspire you too.
Everyone has a dream they fear won't come true until one day it becomes a reality. Here's the story of how I realized mine.
I have wanted to travel the world for a while now. Not because of the intrigue, but because of this desire to chase life and to explore the feel of different people, places, and energies. Until recently, I have been content with changing my environment, in lieu of traveling abroad. I went to boarding school across the country for a couple of years, and then when I returned to New York my family moved, so I got to experience a change of scenery. For a while, this has been enough.
New Year’s Eve has come and gone. Spirits flew high, resolutions were created, and kisses were shared. By now, a week has passed and you’re still holding on to some of the hope that accompanies the start of the year. It’s not too late to buy a gym membership, is it? Not to worry, it's never too late to make sure you have the best year yet.
There’s something about a new year that makes it magical. Although it’s cold outside and the weather is miserable, the promise of new beginnings keeps hope alive. It’s as if a New Year’s Fairy exists amongst the other legendary figures, and she makes it her mission to spread joy the night before a new year.
The Beginning of a Project is the Worst Time to Get Stuck
When you start a blog, or any personal project, it is easy to get caught up in woulds and shoulds. Would I be successful if I followed my heart? What should I do to grow a loyal readership? And even after considering these questions, there are doubts that slink through your mind like shadows in the moonlight.
These doubts led me to search the web for weeks, trying to learn everything I could on the truth about blogging before I decided to start. And you know what? Though I spent hours preparing for potential obstacles, there are still lessons I’ve had to learn on my own. Even the most obvious realizations can require personal experience to make them real.
With the New Year around the corner, millions of people scramble to set New Year’s resolutions. Some dream of changing themselves, while others want to change their partners, friends, and careers. Regardless of what goals are set when the clock strikes 12, chances are more than half of them will be abandoned by February. Does this sound familiar?
According to US News, that number is actually closer to 80% which means we really suck at commitment. I’m here to help you change that forecast, at least for yourself. It shouldn’t be so hard to follow through with the goals we set for ourselves. We dream of positive results, but what do we expect to gain if no action is taken?
