Introducing Ash: Meet The Messy Mind Through Song

meet ash - the messy life playlist
Me (actually, yes really!) enjoying an indie band at WHRW's annual music festival.

I hope these playlists add a new dimension to the words I share with you. Here is a collection of songs I have chosen to officially introduce myself.

PLAY HERE

YOUNG ADULT - RITT MOMNEY

This entire playlist is filled with songs that represent my favorite genre(s) of music, but this song struck me especially, as soon as I heard it. The sound created by combining the guitarist's chords with the female vocalist's song, make me think of Young Adult as being the love child of a Weezer and Paramore affair, with it's own unique twist.

Trying to imagine myself in the music, I'd describe this song as me when I'm lounging out, letting my body as loose as I wish my mind would be.

Pretty are the simple few.

SILVERTONGUE - YOUNG THE GIANT

A pinch of angst and a splash of energy make Silvertongue an undeniable banger. It's a fun song that reminds me of summer, and it's an easy way for me to tell you that I think I know my way around words.

SIZE OF THE MOON - PINEGROVE

Size of the Moon starts out a little slower. The singer has that typical angsty indie sound.

I's definitely a reflection of my energy on days when I'm feeling especially cynical, and I'm over everyone around me. Honestly, what's not to like?

If you haven't already caught on to my word play, then here's a hint: you can read the titles in order to decipher the puzzle, explaining how this song fits into the list.

TALK TOO MUCH - COIN

Another jam, "YOU KNOW I TALK TOO MUCH". This song is too fun, not to give it a listen. In fact, do yourself a favor and start building a playlist for the summer now. It will give you something to look forward to amidst the chill of this this bleak, never-ending winter.

Following my oh-so enjoyable moods, this song is the infallible pick-me-up that tails the times I feel less than better.

IN QUIET ROOMS - OLLIE MN

In Quiet Rooms held my heartstrings for over a month after I first head it. I wish I was as beautiful as this song.

Something about it warms me up inside and melts away the thoughts in my mind, so it's just me and the music. That's how I like it.

If you've figured out my poor attempt at riddling, then you  now know that I'm that girl. Oops! I can't say I'm proud of it, but I have to be honest with you.

MIDNIGHT CITY - M83

Back from the bottom, Midnight City will always be a jam. You can't top this kind of energy.

It ranks on my Top Ten List, though arguably every song can rank on your Top Ten List as long as you don't write said list down. In other words, I'm indecisive, and Midnight City is on my theoretical Top Ten list, which doesn't make my love for the song any less real.

PUZZLE PIECES - SAINT MOTEL

I'm gonna step out on a ledge here, and claim to hear some influence of funk laced throughout this song. In no way can I call this a bad thing. Puzzle Pieces is the type of song that makes you want to move your body. It's fun, it's fresh, and it's forever young. Rollerblade, anyone?

SAY WHEN - JUKEBOX THE GHOST

Now that I think about it, Say When pretty accurately describes a good portion of my life. It could very well serve on a soundtrack set to accompany my autobiography: Cynical and Saltly Bitter (which is a close tie with Cynical and Slightly Unseasoned).

Yes, I have other autobiographical titles in mind, but this song would go so well with this one. Don't you agree?

I WEAR GLASSES - MATING RITUAL

I wear glasses. Beyond the fact that this song is pretty great, that's the extent of my logic behind this song choice. Some things must'nt be overthought.

I'M A REALIST - THE CRIBS

"I'm an indecisive piece of sh*t." There you have it folks. As Jarman sings, "I know it's only a matter of time before you know it so why not let you know now". Glad to meet you!

I'LL TRY ANYTHING ONCE - JULIAN CASABLANCAS

Mmmmm, a deliciously smoky end to a pretty hot playlist. And by hot, I mean it's best enjoyed in the warm embrace of a dark room and crumpled covers.

You'll get to know me a touch better if you actually listen to the playlist, so go ahead and get on that! Click the image below to listen to the playlist. themessy life - listen now

Marketing Student - Comfort-obsessed, plant-loving mess. Always trying. Continually coming to be.

  1. […] well as these songs help me get through life. You can think of this playlist as an extension of my “meet me” playlist. While some songs may have hidden messages, for the most part I just love them. […]
